If you are small or mid-size business, Supply Chain Management extensions to your Corporate ERP application might be very difficult to find, or find software programmer to customize. We heard the stories, where brand name external Warehouse Management System implementation went into limbo and finally failed.
Well,
there are reasons and excuses, as SCM theory is very practical and each company Supply Chain Management business processes might deviate from the streamline. In our case, we are trying to eliminate redundant complexities from WMS implementation for such ERP and MRP applications as Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics, eEnterprise, Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac), SAP Business One – being on Corporate ERP midmarket
1. Supply Chain Management concept. It includes such sub concepts as Warehouse Management, eCommerce, and all the flavors of SCM optimizations: delivery trucks, consignments, just in time, picking and packing, shipping and receiving, light manufacturing and assembly, order fulfillment and allocation, and others
2. Classical Barcoding. Barcode scanning is crucial for SCM and WMS extensions for your Corporate ERP application. The inventions of Barcode fonts launched the revolution in the Supply Chain Management. Even in your private life, being retail shopper – if you prefer self checkout, your should scan your purchased items one-by-one at the self checkout counter and you probably are happy to have things done automatically without human intervention. In the case of Microsoft Dynamics GP barcoding requires add-ons and probably some custom programming, as you have to enable GP forms for Barcode scanner integration. Classical barcoding was based on the assumption that you can use barcode scanner as the replacement for the computer keyboard. This was very true for the first barcode scanners, but as the time went, barcode devices improved and turned to be more complex and sophisticated
3. Modern Barcode Scanners. Here you have the options to run WMS client on the screen of your Barcode Scanner (Symbol, or another brand). Barcode scanner has the options of generic computing and such concepts as ODBC, SQL Client, eConnect (integration SDK for Dynamics GP). Plus there is the option to upload scanned data in the so called batch mode, where your truck driver scans merchandize transfer documents being on the route
4. Picking and Packing. In these scenarios you may expect barcode scanning for such item attributes as Serial and lot numbers
5. E-commerce shopping Cart integration with Dynamics GP WMS and SCM. There is no need to implement in Great Plains such features as Credit Card Payment, Shopping Cart Checkout, shopping card based pricelist. If you already invested into such ecommerce shopping carts as Magento, please consider our eCommerce module for Dynamics GP, which is integrated seamlessly with custom e-commerce
6. Dynamics GP SCM internationally. Here is the important concept ERP localization. Accounting application should be compliant to the targeted country tax legislation as well as supporting local language in its interfaces. International business is tough and often requires special education or experience. Each country is different in its tax legislation, and you should check if your proposed ERP system is localized on the Corporate ERP market of the targeted coutry
7. Local Language Support. Dynamics GP is available in English speaking countries, plus in genuine Latin America (not available in Brazil, as Brazil speaks in Portuguese dialect), Arabic speaking countries in Arabic peninsula, Northern Africa. Dynamics GP interface could be translated on the week in advance requirement for Afghanistan (Dari, Tajik or Pashtun), Pakistan (Urdu)
