Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics or eEnterprise, has FRx reports designer as the tool of choice for financial reporting: Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Statement of Cash Flow, plus consolidated versions for those reports
In the case of larger organization, it is natural to abstract Dynamics GP and FRx client programs on Citrix or Microsoft Terminal Server, as current technology allows you to deploy local printer drivers on Terminal Server and create the feeling of local work for Great Plains users. Citrix or Terminal Server also allow you to cut GP and FRx support budget, as you are controlling all the users at one TS or Citrix computer. This statement is a bit optimistic, but it seems to be the future of the trends. In this small publication we would like to come across known issues with FRx on Terminal Server and possible solutions:
1. FRx 6.7 Service Pack 9, required and recommended for Dynamics GP 10.0. If you just applied this service pack to your FRx installation, you may already be fighting with strange error message: Invalid path specified for work drive, and then when you are trying to print report: Error 9060 during the buildXML procedure. In order to fix this issue, please for each FRx user, please open in FRx Admin->Processing Options and in Optional Work Drive change default settings from something like this: C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\3 to newly created folder on your terminal server. Be sure that all the FRx users have full control over this folder
2. All the FRx users should be on the same service pack. If you are pursuing local computers FRx user workstation installation, there is no way of having FRx Service Pack mismatch- every computer should be on the same FRx SP, if not – you can put your FRx Sysdata at risk of being damaged Again, Frx is platform independent, and it makes it a bit vulnerable to technology flukes on the specific OS platform
3. How to get FRx support. If you are current and enrolled in Microsoft Business Solutions support plan, please go to your Microsoft Dynamics Customer Source and search the answer on Techknowledge Database, if you are not sure about your CS login and password, contact your Great Plains Reseller, or call our office
4. FRx Great Plains old versions support. Frx is pretty conservative application, at least of looking from versions and service packs issuing. Current FRx 6.7 was around for at least 4 years. In our opinion, FRx reached its cross road dilemma when Great Plains was purchased by Microsoft and such non-Microsoft platforms as Pervasive SQL Server 2000/Btrieve or Ctree were abandoned
