As long term accounting application users, looking for walking away from legacy MRP to something really new and cool on the market, you should be surprised by the originality and simplicity, naturally coming with SAP B1.
Plus you can completely change its color schema, background picture, however in our opinion these bells and whistles are nice but not really something you are looking for. Let’s review the features, which could be really nice, starting with licensing model:
1. SAP BO licensing in all-in-one per named user. This means that named user (please do not confuse with concurrent user, where you can have more users registered but only certain number be in the system concurrently at the same time), and each named user get access to all SAP BO modules, including production, MRP, Service, HR, Financials, AR, AP, Business Partners, etc.
2. Intuitive interface. What we see with the SAP Business One Users, they need only one “required” training – and this is initial training with SAB B1 GUI or user interface; the rest they can discover on their own and this discovering journey is a pleasure time for them, as the functionality is so intuitive and elegant
3. Customer Vendor consolidation. Yes, this is exactly what you just read. In other ERP applications you have to pay high dollars for the module and it is typically available for high-end customers only. In SAP B1 you can do customer vendor consolidation through internal reconciliation with multiple business partner option
4. Analytical accounting. In SAP Business One you can do Profit Centers with Series, which is kind of static analytical accounting and plus you can do more dynamic approach in Projects, where you can assign your business partner, transactions to both profit centers and projects at the same time
5. Changing data entry form on the fly. Yes, you can change the majority of forms, including AR invoice by adding or taking away the fields. Good example would be adding mentioned above projects and series.
6. Drag and Relate. This feature is very innovative by its nature. Old systems, typically based on SQL tables relations were kind of static and drag-and-relate feature comes through additional ERP design, probably inspired by data warehousing and data mining advances in late XX century, earlier 2000. Example of drug and relate is dragging inventory item and relating it to AR invoices – you will see all the invoices, where this item was sold
7. Production or manufacturing. Please think about small business ERP. Do you expect manufacturing be included. I guess typically you would think that Manufacturing module is for upscale accounting, maybe some exception to light bill of materials features. However SB1 has manufacturing and MRP modules included
