Your Dell laptop uses two different batteries to supply power to its parts. The main battery pack draws electricity from a wall outlet and powers the major components while the laptop is running. It also uses a secondary CMOS battery which continues to supply power even when the Dell laptop is fully turned off. Close any files or programs that are currently open and shut off your Dell laptop's operating system. Remove the power adapter cable and close the laptop's display screen lid.

Position the Dell laptop upside down on a stable work area. Push over the release latch for the Dell's battery pack. Hold the latch in the unlock position and pull out the existing battery pack.

Remove the hard drive locking screw at the bottom right corner of the Dell laptop with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the hard drive out of the Dell laptop's case.

Remove both of the screws at the middle of the case that lock the memory module cover. Lift up the cover and pull it off the Dell laptop.

Locate the CMOS battery at the left side of the memory modules. Unplug the cable running from the battery to the Dell's motherboard. Remove and discard the CMOS battery.

Push the new CMOS battery into place and connect the motherboard cable. Replace the plastic cover and screws. Replace the hard drive and its screw.

Set the replacement battery pack into the Dell inspiron 9200 laptop battery bay. Turn over the laptop and power it on.

Press the "F2" key as the Dell logo pops up on the screen to access the BIOS. Depending on your Dell laptop model you may need to press the "Delete" key or a combination of the "FN" and "F1" keys.

Scroll over to the BIOS tab labeled "Exit." Highlight "Load Factory Defaults" and press "Enter." Press "F10" to save the changes and restart the Dell laptop's operating system.
