1) Change. Too many people view change as something bad. Life is all about change. Change is good. If you want to get your ex back you're going to have to change whatever it is that drove you apart or the reconciliation will be doomed before it begins.
2) Acceptance. You're going to have to accept that you and your ex each have faults. Some of them cause problems in the relationship that must be changed but others are only minor irritations. You're going to need to learn to accept those faults and live with them if you want to have a happy relationship in the future.
3) Empathize. Perhaps the most important of the steps to get your ex back is to learn to empathize with your ex. Put yourself in his or her shoes and see how he or she hears what you have to say. Put every word you think of saying through the filter and measure those words carefully.
4) Apologize. Learn to say you're sorry with complete conviction. The most important thing you will need to know how to do to make your knew relationship with your ex bigger and better is to learn to apologize the right way. This is also the step that will get the attention of your ex to make all others known.
