Despite the Information Technology (IT) industry being well-suited for the state, with its non-polluting and employment-generating attributes, the sector is not as vibrant as it should have been. IT companies in the state are few and far between.

However,Budget measures may revive IT industries (TOI - Java Training Courses) Articles the budget announcements by chief minister Manohar Parrikar appear to provide a glimmer of hope to the sector and industry experts feel the same will help provide the necessary stimulus to the Goan IT sector.Java Training CoursesGirish Bharne, chairman, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GIT committee, told TOI, "The budget will give a fillip to IT and IT-enabled services."He felt incentives should be given to banks and financial services to set up back-end offices in Goa. "We are a bit late for this as they (companies) have set up their offices in other states. But we can tap them when they go in for expansions."He felt the neutrally-accented English spoken by Goans would be one factor which would work in favour of companies choosing Goa. Bharne was of the view that the revival of the IT habitat will also give a boost to the sector. "Parrikar's statement that he is hoping to get Goans working in the IT field outside the state, back to Goa is a positive statement," noted Bharne. He also felt that the distribution of tablets needs to be linked to the computer education programme. Bharne also stressed that the orders for procuring he tablets could be routed through local dealers to avoid monopoly. "Overall we need to see the implementation of the steps announced," he concluded.Sanjiv Nadkarni, vice-president (VP), NE Technologies, told TOI, "For the first time there has been a lot of thrust on IT in the budget." Nadkarni termed the revival of the IT Habitat as "a positive step".He felt the announcement of tablets for students could create jobs in creation of educational content."Content can be created locally. Retired teachers can be employed to frame the content such as school lessons and mock tests. IT people can then put this in a software form. It will create jobs for them for a couple of years."Nadkarni lamented that the IT policy was notified in 2005 and has still not been implemented. "There is a need for taking time-bound steps," he said, adding that a policy concerning incentives for IT companies needs to be in place.Deepak Chodankar, VP (R&D), Digisol, told TOI, "As far as IT is concerned, the budget looks good. Revival of the IT Habitat is good, as is the proliferation of IT which is talked about. The Goa Broadband Network (usage for various services) will also go a long way."Chodankar felt the government should attempt to create an IT city in the state on the lines of those in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Gurgaon. "Build infrastructure and invite top brands like IBM, Microsoft or Samsung. If one or two companies come, the rest will then follow."  Java Training Courses  Satish Pai Panandikar, VP, Lotus Technobuild Pvt Ltd, which was allotted the largest plot in the IT Habitat, told TOI, "The revival of the IT habitat is a very good idea. We have spent 10 crore, which is a dead investment."Panandikar felt there was no rational approach adopted towards operating the habitat. "The infrastructure is not there, there was a security problem. They were also charging us interest for delays. If everything is transparent, we can do something (to restart operations in the IT Habitat)," Panandikar said."If they demand money then we won't be able to move forward," he added, hinting that corruption had partly hindered the development of the habitat.
