The admit card originally slated to be available by 18th October was postponed by 6 days owing to the increased number of registrations this year and the extension of the registration deadline as believed by many. However, there are a few things that are not clear concerning the CAT exam for this year. Those being the following:

  • Though a clear notification has been published on the content of the exam- the details of the sections, the number of questions etc, the number of MCQs and non-MCQs has not been specified. Hence, a candidate has to be on the lookout for the same. Further, with the IIMs looking for non-engineers, the pattern of the questions may be structured to favor them.
  • Usage of vocabulary and correction of errors have not appeared in the previous year papers. So, there is a possibility of such questions appearing this time.
  • The second session for the exam begins immediately post the first giving no time for the candidates of the second session to understand what happened in the first.
  • The official mock test is still not available and is keeping the fingers crossed of so many candidates as to how the exam on the D-day would appear this year.
  • There can be an increase or decrease in the total count of the questions this year, considering the composition of every section, which is very uncertain.
  • If any change has come to the knowledge of the exam aspirants at a time very close to the exam, there exists the difficulty of switching the preparation schedule driving the anxiety by an increased measure.
  • There are certain things which have not been conveyed clearly in the name of confidentiality by the exam authorities.

However, as time spent on these uncertainties would be of no help and are out of control completely, candidates should brush these aside and believe in themselves. Only this attitude would help ace the exam and get into an institute of good repute. Also, with CAT scores being considered in addition to consistent academic record and other factors by IIMs with a view of having a diversified batch, preparing on an overall level with the intent of getting admitted will help a candidate sail through smoothly inspite of the unknown challenges on their way. All the best!
