Students of KJ Somaiya College of Engineering, Vidyavihar, are once again preparing to showcase their racing car in Germany this August.

Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Since 2007,Engineering students gear up for F1 contest Articles students of the college have been taking part in the prestigious international event.

This year, students unveiled their most advanced model till date, Orion 2012, on Tuesday. "We have used cutting-edge technology. The car's carbon-fibre body reduces its weight and makes it more effective at high speeds. It is able to clock in 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds," Nigel Pinto, student at KJ Somaiya, said.

Engineering GraduationOrion 2012 has been tested at the Sion bus depot. "We have been ready since March," said Pinto. Shubha Pandit, principal of the college, said, "The team's sustained effort has made the management feel responsible for providing them with basic amenities. I am confident that they will do a wonderful job."
