Miranda House, the name that is largely associated with women’s education in India, was the dream child of Sir Maurice Gwyer, the then Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi. It was founded in 1948 by Sir Maurice Gwyer and its foundation stone was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on March 7, 1948. It is a college that boasts of a rich background and eventful past being one of first few women’s colleges to be opened in the independent India. Since its establishment, the college has performed the function of imparting quality education to women in the country and has successfully produced many women who have excelled in their fields like Anuradha Kapoor, Minisha Lamba, Syeda Saiyidain Hameed and many more.
Miranda House’s campus is one of the most beautifully designed and well maintained campuses in the entire university. The college has a fully automated library with an audio visual section and a Digital Resource centre with advanced computers. It has one of the biggest collections of college books, newspapers, magazines in the University. In addition to this the college has various spacious special lecture halls which are used produce the future female leaders of the country. The college also has one of a kind Botany and Zoology Science Museums which is maintained which is maintained by the Life Science Department which an extensive collection of preserved specimens of flora and fauna, slides and other material. Apart from this, the college also has an Auditorium which provides a platform to the budding artists to showcase their talent.
