National Institutes of Technology (NIT) are one of the oldest and premium institutes offering engineering education in India. Previously known as Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs), they are considered as Institutes of National Importance (INI) by the Government of India. From 1959 to 2015, 30 NITs are run in various cities across the country. One of the meritorious amongst them is the National Institute of Technology, Warangal. NIT, Warangal was established in the year 1959 as a part of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s initiative to make India the leader in science and technology. He laid the foundation stone for this first ever Regional Engineering College of the country on 10th of October, 1959. From just three courses (Mechanical, Civil, and Mechanical) in Engineering taught in humble temporary sheds to the 256 acres of sprawling campus with 15 diverse courses, NIT Warangal has come a long way in developing some of the best Engineers of India. No wonder, NIT-W always finds a place in the list of “Top engineering colleges in the country”.

Apart from the 8 undergraduate engineering courses, this institute also offers 29 post graduate programs in Engineering, Science, Humanities, Management and Physical education. This residential college houses a total of 3624 students and 560 teaching & non-teaching staffs.
The admission to one of the courses in NIT-W is tough and only the crème de la crème gets through. For the B.Tech course, the students should have completed higher secondary education (10+2) and cleared the highly competitive JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) mains examination with the best scores. For the post graduate course in Engineering, the candidates need to clear Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in their respective specializations. Students wishing to pursue Masters in Computer Application (MCA) should score high in NIMCET, an examination for admission to MCA courses in selected NITs. The admission for the PhD programs are conducted based on the application submitted by aspirants and it happens twice every year.
