NMAT: A leap into the world of management studies

NMAT is conducted by Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai, to select students for its MBA Programs. The university has now tied up with GMAC in 2015, to conduct the entrance exam. Here are the details.

For those who missed or could not clear CAT,NMAT: A leap into the world of management studies Articles Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) comes up with an online test called National Management Aptitude Test(NMAT) for students aspiring to pursue MBA and PGDM at premier institutions. The candidates with work experience of two or more than two years are preferred over the fresh applicants. GMAC a global non-profit organization is the conducting body of this exam, GMAC also conducts GMAT. It opens door to admission to 17 participating Institutions. NMMIS, UPES, AMITY are the elite institutions listed for admission by GMAC.

To be eligible to apply a candidate must meet the following for applying to NMAT

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA

• Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification provided they clear final examination in first attempt with 50% aggregate marks

• For all the Full Time programs, preference will be given to the candidates with two ormore years of post qualification work experience

The NMAT exam is a computer-based test which can be taken up by an applicant for a maximum of 3 attempts over a period of 10 weeks. A candidate is required to come up with the best score that he/she has scored in the tests taken up by him/her for further admission process.

The NMAT exam has three sections meant to measure Language Skills, Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. Candidates can choose the order of sections in NMAT as per their choice. Each of the three sections will have individual timings and candidates are supposed to answer and review the questions of a particular section within the time allotted. The time saved by a candidate in a given section is not to be added to the next section.one can select test date and slot based on choice and availability of timing and center. The NMAT exam will be conducted at 27 centers in 18 cities throughout India. A city can have multiple test centers to choose from.

To prepare for NMAT Exam, a candidate needs to go through previous years’ question papers which can be found at www.nmat.org.in. Practicing questions on English grammar especially spotting errors, rearrangement of sentences, synonyms and antonyms will be bear good result. If you are writing for NMAT, don’t forget that you are competing with lakhs of other candidates, so your time management plays the most vital role. To begin with go for the section which you find the easiest and let your level of difficulty go up gradually. Keep practicing the sample papers to check your speed and accuracy. Since Logical reasoning depends on your approach of solving so practice each type of reasoning questions. Books of Arihant Publication on Reasoning will be really helpful.
