NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original work of Kathleen Messmer in "Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography." The exhibition will be open from October 20, 2017, to November 9, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, October 26, from 6-8 pm.
Kathleen Messmer, an American artist, masterfully captures the interplay of gesture, lines, shadows, and textures in her photography, creating deeply emotive pieces. Her work transforms familiar objects into fantastical compositions of flow, light, boldness, color, and ever-evolving forms.
Messmer draws inspiration from iconic figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Imogen Cunningham, Karl Blossfeldt, and Georgia O’Keeffe. Much like O’Keeffe, Messmer's art delves into the eternal mysteries hidden within flowers. She explains, “Botanical abstracts offer a beautiful, voluptuous symphony of the lines and color I look for most. Sometimes I get serenity; other times I get riotous movement, bold statements, and power….They fascinate me with their presence. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
