NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of MENPO in the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The exhibition opens on August 19, 2017, and runs through August 30, 2017, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 19, from 6-8 pm.
Spanish artist MENPO's illustrious career spans multiple genres, including realism, surrealism, abstraction, painting, and sculpture. His work defies easy categorization, embracing the inherent drama in art by placing his subjects front and center, often in extreme close-up with minimal backgrounds to enhance focus. MENPO's eye for detail and precise hand capture the power and potential of human emotion. Art critic Mireia Guillaumens once described him as "an artist of restless spirit," highlighting his constant experimentation and evolution in his creative journey.
MENPO was born in Catalonia, Spain, where he continues to live and work. His talent has been recognized internationally, earning him several awards in France, Italy, and Spain. Notably, he was selected by an International Scientific Committee to represent Spain at the Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy.
The exhibition will also showcase works from a diverse group of artists, including:
This August, Agora Gallery presents the selected artists of the 2017 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. The exhibition features an incredible variety of works showcasing extraordinary skill. From precise, minimalist drawings to maximal, playful sculptures, the diversity is astounding. Monochrome, graphic paintings exploring repetition are displayed alongside hyper-realistic still lifes inspired by classical art. The exhibition also includes imagined landscapes and human moments that resonate with authenticity. Even the landscape photographers defy comparison, with some producing stoic, black-and-white views of single trees, while others create expansive, full-color vistas. The 2017 jurors' picks share a common thread of fearlessness, skillful execution, and unforgettable originality.
MENPO's lifelike portraits and diverse artistic expressions capture the soul of his subjects, making his work a must-see at the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. With a rich career marked by international recognition and a relentless pursuit of creative evolution, MENPO continues to leave an indelible mark on the art world.
