The hospital-grade electric breast pump will be provided on rental basis only when direct nursing at the breast is not possible during the neonatal period. Sometimes, when the mother is receiving any therapy with pharmaceutical agents then that might render her breast milk unsuitable for infant feeding while in the therapy. Also, if the baby develops a medical condition or requires hospitalization, then nursing might not be allowed on a regular basis. These are a few situations where the mother need not buy a breast pump but rather rent it from the hospital. The physician then has to provide the requisite documentation along with the treatment authorization request. Detailed documentation of the medical condition as well as the diagnosis and prognosis has to be provided. The physician need to mention the expected length of time the pump might be needed.
