Five fabulous Christmas games for kids to help them celebrate the season with their family and friends.
Balloon Relay is a wonderful,
active Christmas party game for kids of all ages. You will need two balloons (red and green, the traditional Christmas colours), two chairs and two rulers. The children are sorted into two teams behind a starting line. The first player in each team gets a balloon and a ruler. They must bat the balloon to the opposite end of the room, around a chair and return to the start line before handing the ruler to the next player. The first team to complete the relay wins.
Christmas Card Hunt is excellent for younger and older children who enjoy a hunt. You will need three or more old Christmas cards for each player, cut in half, with the top portions in a box and the lower parts spread around the room. Each player takes one card top from the box and then searches the room trying to find the matching half. When a child finds the matching section, they can choose another card top from the box until there are none left. At the end of the game, the winner is the child with the highest number of completed cards.
Happy Christmas is a counting game where all the children are seated in a circle. The game commences when a nominated player counts "One", followed by the player on their left who says, "Two" and so on around the circle. When a player should say a multiple of five (that is; 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc.), they must say "Happy Christmas!" instead of their number. If a player makes a mistake by counting the wrong number, saying "Merry Christmas!" instead of "Happy Christmas!", forgets to say, "Happy Christmas!"or says it at the wrong time, they are out of the game. The final player wins.
Jingle Bells is another active Christmas game. Each child except one will need a blindfold. The remaining player needs a small bell. The child with the bell moves around a defined area, jingling the bell and saying "Merry Christmas!" while the other players try to catch him. If he is caught, the players swap places. If you don't have large space, you could have only four or five children to take turns trying to catch him at a time.
Ho Ho Ho is a noisy, fun game for any number of players. Player One lays on the floor. Player Two lies down at a right angle, with her head on Player One's stomach. Player Three lays in the same direction as Player One with his head on Player Two's stomach, and so on. When the pattern is complete, Player One says "Ho!" before Player Two says "Ho-Ho" and so on down the line. If anyone giggles, laughs or says the wrong number of Ho's", the whole group starts from the beginning. The game can also be played as a race between two (or more) teams.
