There are many safe manufacturers in the world today, many of them make top quality safes, others do not. Lets take a look at five of the top US safe manufacturers and why they have earned a good reputation. I have listed them in alphabetical order to avoid any implication of ranking among these companies.

American Security or AMSEC has been around since 1948, and are based out of California. They boast being the world’s leading producer of burglar resistant safes. Indeed, security has been foremost in their designs. They were the first manufacturer of round door vaults, which were harder to break into and were an industry standard for decades. Liberty is a younger company than most of the others, having been established in Utah in 1988, but they grew quickly and by 1994 were the #1 selling full-size residential safe company in America.

Besides being a very fast growing company, which was helped by acquiring National Security Safe Company in 1997, they have also been innovative in the market. In the 1990’s they introduced special HiSecurity Composite Doors which sandwiched layers of fireboard insulation and steel and hardened plate-steel, which increased security and fire protection. Sentry Safe was started during the Great Depression in the 1930’s as the Brush-Punnett Company. They had a simple formula of “quality products and reasonable prices through innovative engineering” that guided the company and allowed it to thrive. They are still a family owned company, led by third generation members of the Brush family, but changed their name to the Sentry Group in 1987. Though based out of New York, they have a global presence, producing more safes and  fire resistant chests than any other company in the world.
