How does kangaroo care work?

An amazing idea to create mother child bond, kangaroo care is all the rage in the current times. It began as a necessity as it was found at that time that babies were dying of respiratory problems, infections and lack of care from the parents. So, in kangaroo care a new born baby is given to the mother to hold for one day. The child is kept in between the mother's breasts in an upright position all the while experiencing constant skin to skin touch. The name kangaroo care has been derived from the manner in which this is carried. The child is tucked underneath her clothing just like a baby kangaroo is tucked inside the mother kangaroo's pouch.  It has been found by doctors that kangaroo care has caused a drop in neonatal mortality. Benefits -  Many a benefits have been noted in kangaroo mother care. A kangaroo care baby has more regular and stable breathing rate. Also they have lesser risk of apnoea. Kangaroo care even has a good effect on breast feeding. This process leads to longer duration of breast feeding and improved breast feeding rate. Surprisingly this process has also proved to improve the child's heart rate and the depth of each breathe becomes more and more even. One of the most striking things to happen is that the baby's body temperature begins to depend on the mother. The mother by virtue of her body temperature keeps her infant at the best possible body temperature. It is the most interesting outcome of science and a proof of how one body can heal the other.  The babies it was found experience far less bradycardia and, sometimes, none at all. The apneic episodes decrease to a great extent and even if the baby experiences one, it is short-lived. A major reason why kangaroo care works is the baby's calories get used for the growth of the baby as the baby sleeps more during kangarooing. It is a bonding that explains human heals through touch. It is one of the most intriguing things to witness, how a baby evolves just be staying in the arms of its mother. Kangaroo care is the way to go.
