Anyone will tell you that moving home is one of the most stressful things you can do in an average lifetime, but there are steps you can take that will make the life-changing transition without the stress. The most important thing to do is to plan everything carefully well in advance and mentally prepare yourself for the great transition.

Around eight weeks before you move house,Move Home Without The Stress Articles begin getting quotes from professional removal companies. They can be a real help with the physical moving of your bulky property, and is one thing ticked off the list. You can go to them for expert help and advice when considering other factors such as finding and renting storage space if you need it.

Another great tip is to declutter your house well in advance. When the day of the move arrives, you’ll only have to worry about relocating the bare essentials which will save you time and energy. When you begin packing, start with the non-essentials first like books, toys, ornaments etc.

The next step is to make a floor plan of your new house and colour code each room. When you pack your things up in boxes, stick on corresponding coloured stickers on the boxes so they can be quickly deposited in the right room in your new home.

It’s also a good idea to plan taking time off work to complete the move. Most house moves occur on a Friday. Moving on a weekday could be less hassle than having to fight through weekend traffic, especially if you have to ferry things backwards and forwards from the two houses. Also, if you have family, try to book other people to babysit the young ones and get them out of your hair on the day.

Around six weeks before the move, make a notification checklist. Notify all the companies and organisations, as well as family and friends, of your new address. The first entry should be utilities. With gas, water and electricity, notify them well in advance and arrange for them to take their final readings. Don’t forget non-essential organisations like charities and subscriptions.

Before you embark on your new life, consider the time it takes to unpack everything. So, the night before the move, pack an overnight essentials bag as a backup. Include: nightwear, toiletries, a change of clothes, bedding and towels. It might also be worth keeping things to have refreshments handy (kettle and some mugs).

Finally, be aware of the lifestyle changes that will occur before the move. Acknowledge how your routine will change, and prepare yourself well in advance.
