One issue that seems to be mentioned on a regular basis is the idea that many of us now tend to use physical stores as locations where we research buying decisions. So we might choose, as an example, to visit the showroom of a furniture retailer. Once there, we could test out a sofa, or take a closer look at a bedroom suite.

There's also the opportunity, in this situation, to get expert advice from trained staff members at that store. The problem comes, however, when we then go home and compare prices online. Although the store owner may feel that staff at the physical premises have done a lot of the hard work, the reality may be that we make the purchase elsewhere.

In effect, it can be seen that the online shop makes the sale, but all of the pre-sales work has been done at a physical premises. That latter location has spent time training staff members and has devoted more time to your visit. But they have not made any sort of financial gain as a result.
