Neonatal is everything that is related to newborn and therefore, neonatal care is the care of the newborn. The last thing a pregnant woman wishes when she is waiting to see her baby being born is a last minute complication. Although, knowing the kind of problems that might arise during delivery may be a little unnerving for a pregnant woman on her trimester, it is important to be aware of them for the safety of the mother as well as for newborn care. newborn care is given to babies, who are born preterm. Most babies, who are catalogued in the neonatal care department of paediatrics, are premature babies. Typically, a newborn baby below the age of twenty eight days is classified as a neonate. It is at this age that a newborn baby is extremely sensitive and yet to live by the experience of being brought out to a completely different world and without a constant supply of nutrients. When the baby grows inside the mother's womb for 9 months, it gets accommodated to the fact that it has a constant supply of nutrients through the umbilical cord and a temperature warm and cosy. When the baby is born and brought out to the world, it experiences a sudden shock in terms of being exposed to new temperature that is way colder than what it was inside the mother's womb, harsh lights and a sudden stoppage of nutrients that were initially supplied automatically and continuously. A newborn is, at such a juncture, likely to face medical problems that mandate the availability of neonatal care. Basic neonatal care is given to all babies irrespective of whether they are premature or healthy with the former being given additional baby care. Therefore, there is a difference in the baby care given to preterm babies and full-term babies. A preterm baby is given baby care to help it grow as healthy as a full-term baby and a full-term baby is given baby care to help it establish an emotional bond with the mother. Neonatal care also helps mothers learn the right ways of going about feeding, changing nappies etc to keep the baby happy. Neonatal care helps mothers undo the fear of managing a newborn baby, which sure is a lot of work for a new mother. As part of neonatal care is giving training to the mother to help her learn how, when and how much to breastfeed and change nappies along with other neonatal care tips.
