Will Your New Home Be Cluttered?

In almost all cases, however, a relocation can be seen as representing a new start. Some would suggest that it's a brand new chapter in life. Once you move home, you're likely to face some new challenges. In a more positive sense, it's worth remembering that opportunities will also be made available to you.

You may feel that there will also be changes in terms of the way in which you use a property. I think that this is a fairly common reaction when people start hunting for a new home. Of course, when we look at potential properties, we generally see places that are at their best. As a result, we tend to look at where we live and see lots of things that aren't right. This is a perfectly natural reaction.

Does this have implications for when we decide on a new house too? My own feeling is that it often does, since we may now have clear ideas on using the move as part of a wider process. Here's the chance, for example, to live in a way that involves less clutter.

You've seen numerous properties and it's likely that you've been impressed by how empty they feel. In such circumstances, it doesn't seem particularly odd that you will wish to mimic that style of living. But how realistic is this likely to be? Is this something that you will be able to achieve?

You may tell yourself that it's not been possible in the past, due to a lack of space. This is an excellent excuse, without doubt, but you need to think about whether it really is true. Have you failed to make space due to restrictions associated with your current home? Alternatively, could the problem be a tendency to hoard belongings?

In the latter case, it's worth nothing that there is an associated danger to be found. If you tend to gather items and keep them for years, then there's no reason why you won't do the same when you move. This clearly means that it will be much more difficult for you to enjoy the new style of living that you now crave.

So what is the answer? It must surely begin with a change of mindset. You need to understand what you want and how you will get there. If this means removing some items from your home, then you really need to bite the bullet. You certainly won't be wanting to move additional, unwanted belongings to your new home.

You'll want to sort through things before you leave. You may choose to put some items into temporary storage too. As you work through this task, maintain your focus. If you don't, then you'll simply end up taking your clutter with you.
