The number of electric automobiles bought in the US represent only a small percentage of sales each year. However,Discover The Importance Of High Voltage For Electric Cars Articles with rising fuel prices, and an increasing awareness of living a greener lifestyle, there are increasing numbers of folk showing an interest in them.

While this appears good news for the industry and the environment, all is not that simple. Nearly 80% of those considering a purchase of an electric car, do not live in a home that is able to supply the high voltage required for timely charging. As such, the practical use of the vehicle is not achievable.

There is a solution though, as over 90% of households throughout the country could be converted to supply the required 240 volt supply. In the United Kingdom, and many parts of Europe, 240v is very much the standard supply, but in the US it is presently only seen in homes having heavy domestic appliance use, such as electric dryers and so forth.

Other barriers preventing a larger purchase of electrical vehicles across the country are the lack of a infrastructure which allows charging away from home, and the short travel range because of this. As the larger manufacturers start to supply more attractive cars though, this is something which is likely to be rectified at local government level.

The majority of charging will take place in the owners home though, so addressing the voltage issue there remains the major concern. In response, many companies and car manufacturers have developed their own charging stations, but increasing supply to the car owner is all important.

With significantly cheaper gas bills as well as the benefit of cheaper car insurance, from Alabama to Wyoming, the real push to improve things is likely to be driven by the consumers themselves. With electric cars providing that all important lower carbon lifestyle though, it is surely only a matter of time before this is rectified.
