Carpet Cleaning Remedies
These home remedies for carpet stains can help you in any emergency. Apply cleaning solutions using a spray bottle or by dabbing some onto a clean cloth and blotting. Remember: never saturate the carpet.
As always, test the cleaning solution on a small, out of the way area of your carpet.
Club soda is a great universal cleaning solution. Blot some on a stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Remove club soda by blotting with a clean cloth. Repeat as needed.
Salt is excellent at removing staining liquids like Kool-aid or pet vomit. First, blot as much of the liquid as possible with paper towel. Then, sprinkle the stained area with salt, cover with a damp cloth and wait several minutes. The salt will absorb any remaining liquid. Vacuum up the salt to remove the stain residue.
An ammonia solution (1/2 cup water and 1 Tbsp. ammonia) is great for removing grease, dairy, egg and blood stains. After removing the stain, blot to rinse with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water.
Baking soda will work like salt to draw stains from your carpet. Baking soda is particularly useful for pet stain removal. Apply baking soda, wait several minutes, then vacuum stained area.
Most of these techniques and procedures use household chemicals and supplies to remove carpet stains. There are many cleaning solutions that have been specifically designed for each type of carpet stain.
