Diligently wipe the counters and floors clean after every meal; place the lid on garbage cans and toss out the bags whenever possible. Use organic pesticides to get rid of aphids in the garden, so that sugar ants don’t have an incentive to stay. Avoid leaving food sitting out for an extended period of time, especially left unconcealed.

Essentially, the baits attract the sugar ants to a single location where a mixture of sugar and boric acid is consumed. This will usually kill the ants on the spot or carry it back with them to the colony, where they will soon die and spread the pesticide to the others.
Other types of pest control against sugar ants involve using vinegar, a more natural form of pesticide. Use a cleaning solution with vinegar to wipe down counters and cabinet doors.
