Breast Reduction Decisions
If you are preparing for a breast reduction, you probably spent a lot of time coming to this decision. Much like other forms of plastic surgery, there is no “one size fits all” breast reduction.
It takes time to decide whether or not this is an option for you. You may have consulted with your primary care physician. You may have contacted your insurance company to see if this is something that would be covered. However,
even after all of that, there are still decisions left to make. Most of these will be made with the help of the plastic surgeon you have chosen.
Type of Surgery
Much like other forms of plastic surgery, there is no “one size fits all” breast reduction. Each person's body and their reasons for going though with the process are different. Talk to your cosmetic surgeon to see what type of options are available to you. Some women go with a more traditional surgery that removes the excess, tightens the skin and area around, and also provides a lift. In this specific instance, there is a lot of scarring and some women avoid this option for that reason.
There are other less evasive alternatives that you may want to think about. Some are coupled with liposuction and remove a smaller amount, leaving you will a majority of your original size. No matter what you choose to do, this is something that your plastic surgeon can assist you with. Take the time to talk this over with him and find out what makes sense for you.
Size to Decrease To
One of the most important things to consider with a breast reduction is the size that you are planning to decrease to. Usually this is determined by cup size. Remember to take into consideration your body type and style. You don't want to do anything that would make you disproportionate. You still want to fit in with the rest of your features.
It can be difficult to figure out just what the end results are going to be. If you were planning to increase size, you could just try on a different bra to add volume. When it comes to decreasing size, trying on a minimizing bra won't be able to give you the look and feel of less.
Physician's Recommendation
While it is important to make sure that you are happy with the decisions being made, it is also important to talk these things over with your doctor. Because they worked with breast reductions in the past they have a good idea of what the final results will be, what you will look like and what would be best for your overall look as well as your health. Take the time to listen to suggestions, even if they aren't something that you want to hear.
You don't want to have a procedure like this redone and you don't want to go thorough with everything just to be unhappy with the results. It is a fine balance between making sure that you are content with the way you look and doing what is best.
