A facelift is a treatment which removes excess facial skin in order to make the face appear more youthful.  The procedure is traditionally performed through an incision which starts in the hairline,Facelift Surgery - A Beginners Guide Articles in front and above the ear.  The incision extends downward in front of the ear, comes under, and then upward behind the ear, finally ending in the hairline.  Fatty tissues and skin are lifted from the underlying fascia and muscle as far forward as is necessary in order to correct the problem of loose skin.  Skin is then pulled back and upward and any excess skin is then removed.  Skin staples and sutures are used to close the wound, and in some cases a drain is left in the wound to remove excess blood. Bandages are applied afterward.

The treatment is one which is satisfying to most patients.  It is able to achieve a youthful appearance, which is able to last roughly ten years in most cases.  The operation takes place in an outpatient setting, in a surgical center, or even the physician’s office.  Discomfort and pain during recovery are typically minimal.  Dressings will be removed after a period of three to five days, after which the patient is able to resume their daily routine using makeup to hide any bruising.

If you are interested in undergoing such a treatment, the first step is finding a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in the procedure.  Finding your physician can be an in depth process, but one which should not be rushed through.

In order to find a surgeon, there are a few tips to consider:

Try asking around to friends and family members who may have had cosmetic procedures in the past to see if they have any recommendations.

Hop online and perform a basic search of specialists in your area.  There, you will be able to view a list of reviews as well as office hours, possible financing options, and location information.

Once you’ve built a list of potential candidates, give each of them a call and schedule consultations with the ones you deem a good fit.

Head into your consultation with a list of questions and discussion topics to address.  Pay attention to the staff, the office conditions, and how the physician interacts with you in order to get a better feel for the practice.

Once you’ve left the meeting, you should have a fairly good idea of whether it’s a good fit.  Choose your surgeon carefully, and remember to trust your gut.  It’s your money, be sure you’re getting the most for it.
