How Long do Dengue Rashes Last

Dengue fever is an acute viral disease, caused by mosquitoes carrying dengue virus. It is characterised by skin rashes, high fever, severe headache and muscles aches throughout the body. Among other symptoms of dengue fever include diarrhoea, vomiting and chills. Patients may feel extreme exhaustion for months after dengue fever has been treated.

The tropical disease accompanies rashes that occur at different stages of the disease. The rashes appear first on the onset of fever and the second time when the fever subsides.

Petecial Rash (The First Rash)

The first dengue rash appears within 2 days of the infection in the form of bright red dots at various parts of patient’s body. The reason for rash is bleeding underneath the surface of the skin. Unlike other skin rashes, dengue rash is accompanied by symptoms such as fleeting, yellow eyes and pale skin. Flushed face is another indication that the first rash is about to appear.

Bright Red Rash (The Second Rash)

The second rash appears after 4 to 5 days of dengue fever, characterised by bright red colour and small bumps. Dengue patients can have second rashes anywhere on the body, but these usually appear on the palms and soles.

Complications after Rashes

1 - The skin rashes of dengue fever are typically itchy and the areas of the skin begin to dry and peel after a while. There is no way patients can get rid of the rashes but can use skin soothing lotions to get rid of itchiness it creates. After rash is peeled off, a moderate moisturising cream such as calamine will help skin return to normal.
2 - The complication of dengue cannot be treated and can only be managed. The itchy skin rashes are demanding for a dengue patient as they require care and should not be tempered with unnecessarily.
3 - Skin lesion is another form of rashes that may appear in course of . These are either flat or raised red lesions.
4 - The duration of dengue rash is until the skin starts to peel and loses its soreness.

See a doctor when you find out a rash that follows a mosquito bite. There is a fair chance that itchy skin rash has appeared because of some other medical condition. There is not much of a medication to treat the virus symptoms with a dose or two. Therefore, make sure that dengue rashes are not disturbed during its course.
