You need to follow the following instructions before taking the pregnancy test:
- Make sure your pregnancy test kit is stored in the refrigerator. But when taking the test, the materials must be brought to room temperature.
- For getting accurate results, using the pregnancy test kit on the first day of your missed period is advisable.
- Although you can do the test at any time of the day, if done with the first urine sample of the day, it gives more reliable results. This is due to the fact that the urine in the morning is in its most concentrated form.
- Do not have any liquid before taking the test as this may dilute the pregnancy hormone hCG, affecting the accuracy of the test.
Method of taking
Make sure you read and follow the instructions of the pregnancy test kit carefully. Some tests would want you to pee on a test strip while in others; you are required to collect the urine sample in a container that is sterilised, after which a dropper is used to let a few drops of the sample urine to fall on the testing area of the test kit material.
If you conduct the urine pregnancy test as per the instructions, it would give you better results. You need to drop your urine on what is called the testing window of the pregnancy test kit. You will get the result within a few minutes of this.
Results of different pregnancy test kits vary but in most of them, the positive or negative result is depicted by coloured bands. A single line shows negative result while two bands mean a positive result. In some pregnancy tests, plus and minus signs are actually visible.
