Here we talk about Ocular Migraines.
A lot of diseases and complications are surfacing nowadays as science and medicine uncovers new grounds and statures. Out of these diseases, Ocular Migraine is one which is fast becoming one of the most common ones in people, transcending the barriers of age, class and social status. Ocular Migraine is basically known to be a neurological based syndrome, which is the cause of a lot of sensations and symptoms in patients, which might be deemed abnormal to the first sight by anyone. Ocular Migraine lasts for five minutes or even less than that in most cases. There have also been cases where the suffering patients have reported of a persisting pain for as long as half an hour.
A lot of symptoms and signs can help doctors and even a normal person to perceive if this is the cause of the disease. A disruption of the blood flow in the eye is perceived to be the major cause of such a headache caused by the Ocular Migraine. The disease is basically a neurological conditions, the signs and symptoms observed in it's case are not much different from those seen in case of stroke or even other neurological disorders. A loss in vision is the most common symptom associated with the Ocular Migraine. This loss of vision might be in a single eye or in both eyes at the same time. Partial loss of vision can also be accounted in many cases.
However, it is not so that each and every patient suffering from Ocular Migraine would experience a blurred vision. Most people complain of unbearable pains without any effect on the vision, even for prolonged periods at times. A person suffering from Ocular Migraine also complains of dimming of surrounding lights and even the visibility of blurred light patches. Many medical professionals and experts name this condition as "Scotomas", where dark or light patches may be observed across the line of vision.
The medical research about Ocular Migraine has not yet zeroed in on any particular cause for this pathology. This is the reason why a lot of mystery surrounds this disease as far as it's cure or prevention is concerned. However the years of hard work and labor put in by researchers and medical professionals into analyzing this disease has led to a couple of theories being assembled. Apart from the disruption of blood flow from the head to the eye region, there are other causes which can be accounted for causing this disease. These include genetic disposition and vascular complications such as spasms. Apart from these symptoms agreed upon by medical researchers and experts, there are certain triggers which can initiate and aggravate this condition.
These include the indigestion of nitrates, the use of contraceptives, hormonal changes as well as imbalances and over-consumption of alcohol. Researchers also confirm that high level of stress can be accounted for this disease at many times. The disease yet awaits any concrete proof of it's cause and cure.
