At present, laser technology has been widely used in office equipments. As we have frequent contacts with photocopiers and copy products in our daily work, due attention to their harms on human health has not been made. Many studies show that laser printers and photocopiers can affect human health to some degree. Here is a summary of their harms and relevant preventions.

In the work process of a photocopier, it will produce some ozone in the air. Through monitors on photocopier frequent used places, such as offices and public libraries, the density of ozone is found to reach 0.12 milligram per litre 0.5m away from photocopiers. Ozone, which is highly oxidative, can transform nitrogen into oxynitride, irritating human respiratory organs. Moreover, ozone is hard and slow to disappear as its density is heavier than than of the air. With closed rooms, photocopier operation staff are likely to get "photocopiers syndrome". The main symptoms include dry throats, cough, headache and ision loss etc. 

Thus, the protection on photocopy staff should be strengthened. First, exhaust fans or pipes are suggested to install to keep the ozone exhausts of doors tn time. Second, covers should be added to the office equipment to keep from the sunshine. What's more, the operation staff should have some amount of vitamin E to protect from oxynitride hurts. In addition, those who have respiratory disease, insomnia and pregnancy are not advised to engage in office equipment operation.

The effects of laser printers on health are said to be similar to smoking, which may even cause cancers. Laser printers do harm to human health in four main aspects: carbon powder inhalation, laser radiation and smells from the equipments. As the concept of healthy office equipment is more and more recognized, the application of new technology on office equipments is on agenda. Take LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology for example, it can not only provide new printers with effective printing function, but also save energy and reduce damages on human health. Therefore, there will be no ozone, laser or other toxic materials produced by office equipments in the near future.
