Rhinoplasty is one of the most common forms of plastic surgery,Rhinoplasty: The Nose Job Explained Articles better known as the nose job. It can be performed for a variety of reasons, each of which may be just as valid as any other. The most common reason is simply for vanity’s sake. Many people are unhappy with some aspect of their nose and having this procedure can remove the issue and really make a change in the person’s appearance. A doctor versed in the procedure can use it to reduce the overall size of the patient’s nose, modify the shape of the tip, smooth the bridge, narrow the nostrils, and several other possibilities.

The procedure itself can be performed in a number of different ways, depending on the goal of the operation. In most cases, the operation will begin with the doctor making a small incision close to the base of the nose. While there is going to be some degree of scarring that comes with any invasive procedure, the scarring from rhinoplasty is usually very minimal and the worst of it will certainly fade with time. Within time, it will probably not be noticeable to anyone unless they are really looking for it.

If possible, look for a surgeon who has state of the art computer equipment. Why is this important? Newer equipment can allow a doctor to do photo imaging with your before photograph. In this way, the doctor can show you almost exactly what your results will look like before you go under the knife. This can be an important aspect of learning to modify your expectations and know what it is you’re getting into. Changing the size and shape of your nose can make a dramatic difference in how you look. Some patients are not prepared for just how drastic this difference will be. Having a computer image beforehand can help tremendously.

In most cases, rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure. The patient will be put to sleep with general anesthesia and the operation itself should not take longer than two hours or so. Once finished, you’ll be sent home. While there may be some initial discomfort, there should not be much in the way of actual pain. Nonetheless, you’ll probably be prescribed some pain medication to take the edge off. Some bruising and swelling will be expected over the next five days. The important thing is to follow your doctor’s advice completely, as this will make the difference when it comes to having a successful recovery.
