Three Tips for Taking Painkillers
Taking painkillers should be careful.
Everyone has experienced pains. More than half white-collar workers have stomachaches from time to time. Children are easy to have bellyaches. Most people choose to take painkillers when they have headaches,
toothaches or dysmenorrheal. As we know, pains are important signals of diseases or hurts. Doctors say that painkillers could reduce some pains, but they should be used carefully. In general, people should follow three principles.
First of all, painkillers should be taken according to instructions. The efficiency of medicine is closely related to the dose and the times that people take it. And doctors give their professional advice on medicine on the basis of particular features of the medicine and specific conditions of patients. However, some people want to get well so quickly that they would like to take more medicine than they should. Some people take medicine whenever they remember it. Such actions are rather dangerous. We should keep in mind that painkillers are medicine. Taking too many painkillers would do harms to health, while taking too few or taking painkillers whenever people want would not be effective enough. Therefore, people should take painkillers on schedule. And the dose should be under control. For example, ordinary painkillers should be taken one pill every time and two times a day. If the pains are not reduced, patients should turn to doctors for help.
Secondly, take painkillers as early as possible. Most people choose to tolerate slight headaches, toothaches, neuralgias, or arthralgia. They hold the view that pains will disappear themselves some days later. And they think painkillers are harmful to the human body. Some people even say that painkillers would get people addicted. Thus, they would not take painkillers until the pains influence their normal life. However, doctors disagree with such actions. They suggest people not to tolerate any pain. When pains just occur, it is the time that pains are easiest to cure. Sometimes, tolerance lets people miss the opportunities to be cured. In one word, people should take actions immediately when they are ill.
Last but not the least, people are not advised to take painkiller with drinks, such as coffee. As we know, except some special medicine, most pills should be taken with water. Cola, juice or milk is forbidden. Tea and coffee are not allowed, either. When people take painkillers together with drinks, the substances would combine with each other and the function of painkillers will probably be influenced or totally disappear. Such an action also hurts the stomach. For example, when painkillers are taken with coffee, there exist side effects. The
caffeine would work on effective chemicals. Consequently, the efficiency of the painkillers would be strengthened or weakened. In other words, the medicine becomes useless or quite harmful. Some instructions of painkillers even point out that wine and coffee are forbidden during the periods when patients are taking these pills.
