Everyone has times when he cannot remember something he once knew well. Amnesia is a kind of sickness in which a person cannot remember anything.
(In the Greek language, amnesia means "forgetfulness.") A person with amnesia may be unable to remember his ow n name, or where he lives, or who his parents or his children are.
Sometimes amnesia is caused by an injury to the brain. Sometimes it is caused by a kind of mental disturbance. Amnesia may last only for a few hours or days, or it may last for years. There have been cases when a person was injured in the head in an accident, or became very upset, and lost his memory for a long time. For many years, doctors did not know very much about amnesia or how to treat it. They have come to understand it well only since World War I.
There are also special kinds of amnesia, in which a person forgets some things and not others. I-or instance, a person might forget how to read and write, and have to begin learning all over again. Fortunately, amnesia does not occur very often, and there is very little danger that you or anyone you know will ever have a bad case of this mental trouble.
Spiders In The Garden
Watching for their prey in the centre of a radiating geometrical snare, we often find the garden spiders. The beauty of their vertical orb-webs and the large size of these strikingly marked creatures always attract our attention during summer strolls.Jack & Jill The Vulture Twins
Probably this story of Jack and Jill, the Vulture Twins, would never have been written, if Betsy, Farmer Parsons' old brindle cow, had not refused to come up from the woods one night. But she wouldn't come, so Farmer Parsons had to go down after her.At Home With Mr. Burroughs
Youth still peered out at me in spite of his crowning thatch of silvery hair when I first met John Burroughs in 1904. As we walked together on our way to his rustic little house in the woods called "Slab-sides,"
