Bipolar Depression: characterized by sudden and drastic changes in one's mood wherein one minute the person is in an elevated state of euphoria while the next minute (day or week) he or she is feeling to be in an emotional hell. he roller coaster of ups and downs is caused by an imbalance in the sufferer’s brain chemistry.
Cyclothymic Disorder: Cyclothymic disorder is a mild form of depression that is similar to bipolar disorder, with less frequency and severity. It is characterized by a slight similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness may occasionally suffer from severe changes in one's moods. Often, a person with cyclothymic disorder may later develop bipolar disorder if their condition is left untreated.
Postpartum Depression: Postpartum depression is a form of major depression that occurs in new mothers immediately after the birth of a baby. It is characterized by a prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness by a new mother. According to a study, about 10% of new mothers suffer from this condition.
Atypical Depression: Atypical depression occurs most frequently in women. It is a type of depression that overwhelms an individual almost to the point of emotional paralysis. Common symptoms include oversleeping, low self-esteem, overeating, and a hypersensitivity to rejection.
