Many handwriting experts have observed that Charles Manson autographs bear a striking resemblance to his psychological profile.  In 1969,Charles Manson Autographs Articles Charles Manson and his "family" of murderers were found guilty of committing a murder spree involving Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Steven Parent, Wojciech Frykowski, Leno LaBianca, Rosemary LaBianca.  The gruesome murders shocked the country and Charles Manson become a perverse symbol of insanity and violence.  Mason's notorious legacy and autographs have been subjects of intense study.

Just as in the case of John Gacy, Charles Mansion's legacy has developed into a twisted notoriety.  Manson memorabilia is widely collected and his handwritten letters from prisons in San Quentin, Vacaville, Folsom, and Corcaran, California, sell for thousands of dollars.

Revenue resulting from notoriety of Manson's felonies is used for the benefit of family members of his victims.  In February 1994, Bartlomiej "Bartek" Frykowski, the only son of Wojciech Frykowski, received partial satisfaction of judgment in the amount of $72,608.26 from Geffen Records.  This was partial settlement of a judgment he obtained in 1971 against Charles Manson.  In 1995, the Attorney General of California issued a subpoena for payment of royalties for music released by Geffen Records to be used for the benefit of family members who had been victims of Charles Manson.  Both of these documents were signed by Charles Manson.

Although Manson is not permitted to have Internet access, he does a representative, Mr. Stimson, who started a website for Manson in January 1996.  The website sells photos autographed by Charles Manson.  In their book about Charles Manson, Ivor Davis and Jerry LeBlanc, report that Manson has enlisted a group of fellow inmates to autograph his photos.  However, official prison policy is that Manson receives no direct income from books, music recording, fashion designs, or any media interviews.

Manson's handwritten letters are distinctive for their non-coherent rambling style.  Almost all handwritten letters have multiple misspelled words or words that have been crossed out and replaced by similar words.  Manson often signs his letters as "Charlie Mac Manson" and sometimes draws a swastika next to his signature.  Psychologists and graphologists have commented that Manson's disjointed handwritten letters have a revealing similarity to his psychological profile.
