There are many stringing materials that you can use to make a beaded bracelet or necklace.  There is the nylon cord,Waxed Cords Can Be Used In Various Applications Articles beading wire, leather cord, ribbon and mesh, waxed cord and so many more.  Waxed cord has so many names such as waxed string, waxed thread, and waxed twine.  You may also call it waxed cotton cord if the stringing material is made of cotton and waxed linen cord if it the material is Irish linen. However, what is there in a name.  The important point here is that waxed cord can be used in more than one craft:  basket making, hand sewing moccasins, saddler, leather working, bagpipe reed construction, taxidermy, stringing beads, you name it.

Waxed cord is also often used to create friendship bracelets and other projects that involve hemp string.  The purpose of waxing the thread is to smooth the fibers and make the thread easier to manipulate.  The string becomes easier to grasp and the colors are also made more vibrant with waxing. Pre-waxed cord is available for purchase, but there is very limited selection in this section. So if you are the type who loves doing things yourself, you can wax your stringing materials at home with the use of beeswax, a small sauce pan and stove. However, if you choose to buy, you may be able to find the color and size that you need if you use the internet for your search.

Waxed cord will make a sturdy necklace, too.  It holds the knots very well and will not flake or crack.  The surface finish is very attractive and is available in a wide range of sizes and colors.  The cord is very strong and durable and it will work well with larger and heavier beads to make into chokers or necklaces.

If you need to make some braids for a project, you can try the waxed cord, which is stiffer than beading floss or the bonded nylon beading cord.  The latter is too slippery and wild.  You let it go and it will spring all over the place.  You can expect the cotton waxed cord to have more manners and will behave. When your project is over, you can say that the waxed cord is right for your creation, with its rugged look and firm yet supple feel and you would want to use more of this stringing material.

My advice before going ahead with its use, have information first on how it wears, or washes up or gets dirty. Once you have found that out and you have known that it will not be a big problem, you can use more of the waxed cord in your project. Always remember though, that this cord may not suit every craft project that you do; there are lots of materials to use and each one has its own characteristics.  One type of cord may be better on a project than another type.

For convenience and savings in time and efforts, visit the websites of craft shops on the internet.  The best prices and the best deals are only found there.  Check the return and refund policies and look around for businesses that offer free shipping for a certain amount of purchase.
