You will still feel air flow, but it won’t be able to be cooled because of the ice. You need to turn off the unit and allow the coils to thaw.

Blocked grills on the unit can be another reason you have no cool air circulating in your house. There is no reason to call an AC repair man out for this unless you are just uncertain that you’ll do it properly. First thing to do is make sure the unit is off and that the breaker has been thrown. You don’t want to run a risk of electric shock. Take the grates off the unit and wipe the inside with a damp cloth. You have to be careful not to get any electrical parts wet. Then simply put the grills back on.

The compressor though is probably the biggest problem. For this type of AC repair you’ll have to contact a professional. Often times when this goes out you’ll notice that the AC isn’t running at all, no matter how low you set the thermostat. The compressor is probably the biggest part of the unit and it is by far the most expensive piece to replace. This is something that a trained technician will have to help diagnose and replace.

There are lots of other common problems that you may face. There are leaks and circulation problems that fall under AC repair. The important thing for you to know is that by being aware of what the different symptoms are for the different problems you can be better prepared for what is coming. You will know more about when it’s time to call a maintenance technician and when you can just do it yourself.
