keeping rodents at bay is one of the most important. If you allow them to inhabit your home unhindered you will soon have a large infestation to deal with.
Rodents do not like staying out in the cold weather. That is why homeowners around the world start having major problems when winter rolls around. Cold weather time is when rodents are seeking easy pickings.
When it is cold and rainy outside, rodents will not like it at all. In order to escape the misery they will start looking for warmer accommodations. Since you will be heating your home during the colder months, your home will make an excellent spot for them to ride the bad weather out.
All creatures need a source of water to live too. Many homeowners provide rodents and other pests with an excellent water source and do not even know it. If your gutter system is damaged water will accumulate inside and on the ground below. If there are any pipes inside or outside your home that are leaking rodents will also be attracted to them. That is one reason it is important to get all leaking water problems fixed as soon as you can.
Rodents like rats and mice will also be on a never-ending quest for food. They will invade your kitchen and pantry to find it. If they make their way there you will notice signs of chewing on cereal boxes, boxes containing pastry, and virtually anything else.
Keeping food items in the basement or outside is not a good idea either. Basement and crawlspace areas are frequently inhabited by rodents because they do not have to worry about coming into contact with humans as often. Keeping food in these areas will invite them to take up residence.
Many people keep dog food or birdseed outside to make it easier on them when it comes feeding time. However rodents will try to eat the food instead if you are not careful. You can keep this from happening by storing all food that is kept outside in a metal container. If you make the mistake of keeping it in a plastic container, it will not slow the rodents down much since they can easily chew right through it.
Never make your home a comfortable spot for rodents to visit. Try to limit water and food sources to the best of your ability. Rodents are seeking easy pickings right now, and you do not want your home to become their easy pickings target.
