Selecting a Siding Contractor
A siding contractor is used to install siding on your house. If you have decided to re-side or install new siding, you’ll need to pick a contractor to do it. Unless you have the technical training or a good amount of experience, it would be better to hire a contractor for the job than try to do yourself. Siding installation requires a certain amount of expertise.
Once you have decided on hiring a contractor,
the next step is to find the right one. When searching for one there are primarily three things to look for:
1. Ask family and friends for suggestions of contractors they have used for previous tasks they have needed done. (Word of mouth-work is usually the most trustworthy and dependable.
2. Confirm that he is licensed and insured.
3. Go to sites that he has applied siding and look at his work.
It will be beneficial to you to get a list of 3 to 4 contractors so you can begin to get estimates from all of them. When contracting a household task at my home, I rounded up three different contractors and had they come to my home to look at what they needed to do, asked about their insurance coverage, asked for references addresses and phone numbers and waited to receive their estimates.
You’ll want to receive the estimate in detailed writing so you will know specifically what the cost of the siding installation will cover, from beginning to end. Give a list of your expectations and what you would like listed in the estimate to the contractor. Some of the topics to put in that list are siding removal and haul-off of debris, time frame of job completion, quotation of the siding measured in squares since squares is the measurement used for siding and the payment schedule for the task being done. Once you have gathered your estimates and made a decision, be sure to read the contract thoroughly before signing to assure a positive experience and beautiful newly sided home.
