A lot of people make the mistake of hiring the wrong attorney to represent them during their divorce. These are the types of individuals who will hire an attorney who they do not like, do not trust, or not have much confidence in. Why do people hire an attorney who they do not like, do not trust, or do not have much confidence in??? Honestly, I do not know. I do know based on my experience as an attorney, a lot of people will hire the first attorney whose name appears on google or in the yellow pages simply because it is easy to do so.
If you and your ex are experiencing a divorce, then take my advice and shop around for the right attorney. The good news about attorneys is that there are plenty of us. So long as you will exert a little effort and shop around a little bit, you will find the right attorney for your case.
What exactly is the right attorney??? What makes an attorney the right attorney for your case??? Below is a list of three criteria that make an attorney a good fit for you and for your case. My hope is that you will read the three criteria, familiarize yourself with them, and then implement them into your divorce situation.
Number One - Solid Reputation. If the attorney who you are considering does not have a solid reputation, then forget about hiring that attorney. Probably the oldest and easiest way to gauge an attorney's reputation is by asking people for their opinions. If 'word of mouth' is not an option, a newer and also easy way to gauge an attorney's reputation is by logging on line and checking for reviews posted by previous clients.
Number Two - Good Communication. Whenever you and an attorney sit down at the attorney's office for a consultation, be sure to gauge whether you and the attorney can communicate well between you. You can ask yourself the following questions: does the attorney articulate his thoughts well??? does the attorney listen well??? am I able to understand what the attorney is trying to communicate to me???
Number Three - High Level Of Comfort. Whenever you and an attorney sit down at the attorney's office for a consultation, ask yourself whether or not you are comfortable being around the attorney and comfortable disclosing information to the attorney. Remember, if you choose to hire the attorney, then you and him will work closely with each other during the divorce process. You will be disclosing a lot of confidential, highly private information to the attorney so make sure that you are comfortable around him.
