Tenet Behind The Scenes Video Shows How Nolan Avoided CGI.
Behind the scenes of the movie, Tenet shows how Christopher Nolan and his team shot the action scenes without the use of CGI. The film is based on a complicated theme of time inversion spy movies. Initially, the movie was scheduled to be released in July 2020. Due to the global pandemic coronavirus, Tenet was delayed multiple times and is again scheduled on 3rd September 2020.
The reviews of the movie suggested this is Nolan’s one of the most mind-twisting films, and the action scenes of the plot and the complicated narrative forced the critics to scratch their heads. And most surprising reports that came out Nolan shot a scene twice, once forward and again backward. And all the action sequences are shot by digital trickery and not using CGI. This is one of the reasons why Nolan insisted that the movie should be released in theatres. Recently, Warner Bros. released the behind the scenes of the video which proves that the reports were accurate. In the 10-minute video, the director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema, and director Nolan shot a scene along with Robert Pattinson, John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kenneth Branagh. They are discussing the challenges and benefits of the shooting of an action sequence without the use of CGI. Besides the shoot avoids showing off the extensive action sequences, the video focuses on the global nature of the film’s shoot, touting the facts that the crew is traveling across the world and they get what they need. The global nature of Tenet’s shoot in this time of pandemic and quarantine for the past few months seems like the unrealistic part of the video.
Tenet is a spy film erected by Christopher Nolan and produced by Emma Thomas. Nolan took five years to write the screenplay of the film and had conceived the idea over a decade ago. The casting of the movie began in March 2019. Nolan is known for his unique previous masterpieces like Inception which was praised by both audiences and critics. Tenet is also a science fiction film with the concept of time-bending. The plot of the film revolves around the protagonist, CIA agent, who participates as a Russian undercover operation to steal an object during a terrorist siege. After recovering the object, the protagonist sends part of his team out through a secret exit. The protagonist then joined the Russians and realized that he had been tricked.
The title of the movie is a palindrome, Tenet, which reads the same from forward to backward and backward to forward. Nolan made the film inspired by Spaghetti Western’s Once Upon a Time in the West. In the cast, Robert Pattinson, John David Washington, and Elizabeth Debbicki are perfect for their roles. The whole production consists of 250 people, and the shoot began in May 2019 and took place in seven countries. Ludwig Goransson composed the movie’s score with the collaboration of Hans Zimmer. Due to the pandemic, they had to record the songs at their homes.
The efforts and hard work the whole team put into the shooting explains why Nolan wants to release the film in theatres, despite the risk that people might not come out of their homes in this pandemic. Director Nolan to shoot a crash sequence on a highway bought a full-sized plane 747 and filmed the actual crashing of the aircraft. One can imagine the production cost of the sequence. It is being said Tenet is Nolan’s one of the most expensive films.
In countries like China and England, the movie theatres are reopened, and fans are willing to visit theatres. But countries like the USA where the pandemic is still at its peak, audiences might feel unsafe to come out from their homes.
Warner Bros. released the forty-second teaser in August 2019. And they scheduled different release dates in different countries. Tenet was released on 26th August in the United Kingdom, on 3rd September in the United Kingdom, and on 4th September in China. Hopefully, Tenet would get enough time to make it smark, so that audiences also get an opportunity to witness it on the big screen safely and without the threat of getting contaminated from the deadly virus.
