Doom is a very realistic computer game which can be played by either one player or several others over a computer network.
Doom is a popular computer game which conforms to the style of games which are made from the perspective of the first person shooter. It integrates 3D graphics and networked multi-player gaming to give a very interesting game.
It also supports custom expansions (WADs). There is a lot of violence interspersed within the game. The game was however so tremendously liked by the people that it earned the best game title in 2004. Consequently many versions of the game have appeared like Doom II: Hell on Earth,
The Ultimate Doom, Master levels for Doom II and Final Doom. PC/DOS was the platform designed initially for the game but now it can be run on most other platforms.
Get into the driver seat:
Doom can be played through the impulses of the first person which is you. This main protagonist has no name and is believed to be the person playing the game. This will make the game much more exciting for you as you are the `hero` of the game. The game generally takes place in a particular scenario which is an enclosed area. The trick is to find the hidden door which will take you to the next level. By the time you find the door, you will have fought fierce battles with demonic monsters, fallen into pits of radioactive slime or toxic wastes and tried hard to avoid being crushed by the roofs which are bent upon killing you.
The arsenal involved:
The elusive locked door can be opened through a remote device or skull-shaped key which has to be located by you. There are plenty of labyrinths in the playing area in Doom which feature secret power-ups for you. These prove to be ample rewards which can inspire you and empower you to reach new heights. An automap navigates you through the levels. Along with these power-ups, there is a host of weapon arsenal waiting for you. Though you will start the game with only brass knuckles and a pistol, you can gather a chainsaw, chaingun, shotgun, plasma rifle and a rocket launcher on the way. The BFG 9000 is also waiting to be earned along the way.
What about the power-ups?
The power-ups promised because of intelligent play include a backpack which can help you carry much more ammunition, first aid kit to keep you in good health, armor and a berserk pack. This is an amusing pack in Doom which will send you berserk over the terrain avoiding the attack of the enemy upon you. You can deal with all the villains along the way. Your life can be increased to 100% and sometimes to 200% with the help of supernatural blue orbs called soul spheres.
Who are your adversaries?
There are a number of monsters you will encounter on your road to success in Doom. They will attack you in large numbers depending upon the difficulty level you have opted for. Sometimes you have to slay at least a dozen before you find the key to the next level. The monsters vary and can take one of 10 forms. These forms include possessed humans, hellish monsters, the imps, the cacodemons and the very strong bosses who can survive even the most lethal attacks from you. These monsters react by walking towards you, hurling fireballs while they come. Besides biting and scratching, they sometimes resort to fighting among themselves too.
Made by id software, the different versions of Doom feature alternate routes from the room hidden by difficult terrain. You can play the game all by yourself or play with your friends over a network which can be `cooperative` or `deathmatch`. The pleasure of playing this game cannot be surpassed by anything else.
