When you think of a sauna,Getting a Wooden Bench for Your Sauna Articles what comes to mind?  Maybe the hot coals, the water that you put on them, or the fact that you are probably going to wear a towel.  If this is the case, then you are forgetting one very important aspect of saunas that often goes underappreciated.  I am talking about the benches that you sit on, as without them, you would have to stand up (that would be quite uncomfortable, especially with the kind of heat you would be dealing with).

Since you want your sauna experience to be as grand as possible, you need to make sure that the benches you are putting in the area are the highest quality.  There are many ways to determine if the bench you are using is fit for a sauna, and you should start by examining the wood.  There are two kinds of wood that are strong enough to withstand the intense heat, and those are teak and cedar.  Honestly, I believe that teak is definitely better, but some people prefer cedar, and it is a bit cheaper, so I can understand that.  In the case that you want the highest quality, then you should definitely make sure to go the teak route.

Of course, that is not the only factor that you need to take into account.  There is also the size of the wood.  In a perfect world, you could have the best and biggest wood out there, but you need to take into account the possibility that wood can warp if it is too big, and exposed to the kind of heat in a sauna.  You should try to get wood that is sized at 2x4, or if you want to go smaller, than 1x4 is also okay.  If you get thinner or thicker than that, you could encounter problems, though.
