Some girls can feel embarrassed if they think they have big feet. But lots of ladies have size 8 and bigger in the UK, and with more High Street ladies shoes shops stocking size 9’s it proves that it’s very normal! And you can bet that your feet will probably not look as big to everyone else as they do to you.
So try not to worry about your shoe size, as there are styles and fashions for people of all shapes and sizes, and remember that a lot of famous and beautiful women have big feet, think Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet, who all have size 9 plus!
If you are tall, your nice big feet will look perfectly in proportion with your body anyway so you should have no problems with them, they are there to help you balance; which you will need if you’re going to be dancing the night away! However if you are not so tall, or you just want to make your feet appear smaller, then there are tried and tested tips to help you choose the right shoes to do just this.
High Heels or Flats? Wearing shoes with a heel will always make your feet look shorter as moving the foot away from being flat on the ground steels some length. But this doesn’t mean you have to balance like a ballerina on spindly stilettos, you can opt for medium heels for comfort, and walk down that street with catwalk confidence!
Pointy, Square or Round toes? If you want to make your feet look shorter, unfortunately pointy-toed shoes are not our best friends, as the extra bit of shoe in the point can add a lot of extra length. Instead go for a classic square, or a short rounded toe; including the timeless ladies flats - ballet pumps - which comes in all colours and designs imaginable, all year round. Just remember to get shoes that are cut higher up the foot; as too much ‘toe cleavage” can elongate the look of them.
What about colours? Just in the way we use colours to define out body shape with clothes, it is true that dark coloured shoes will help our little tootsies appear smaller. So ditch those pastel shades and why not try sexy shades of greys, blues, reds and greens as well as the obvious black and brown.
Showing a bit of flesh! Thin strappy shoes that show lots of your foot will make it appear bigger, so try T-bars or peep toes. If you must have straps then the wider the better, try gladiator sandals with thicker straps across the front to create width, and in turn make the length appear shorter.
Buy the right size shoes!!!The most important thing you must do is to get your feet measured and buy the right size footwear - don’t go squeezing your poor feet into shoes that are too small because it makes you feel better about your bigger feet. This will look ten times worse if your feet are spilling out of the sides, and you are hobbling around and can’t stand up tall and confident because of the pain! Learning to love and be kind to your feet is the way to feel good about yourself, and make sure you don’t do any damage and end up with painful bunions later in life.
