Mukunda, my cherished canine companion, faces cancer with a spirit that radiates joy and resilience. Despite his diagnosis, Mukunda's zest for life remains undiminished, a testament to the bond we share and the care he receives.
Spending time with Mukunda is a daily highlight for me. Our recent visit to my friend Ellen's home was filled with the simple pleasures of play and companionship. Mukunda's indifference to Aslom the cat during our ball games, and his impeccable manners, never cease to impress us. We strolled leisurely through Ellen's urban garden, taking in the vibrant spring blooms nestled among the chives.
As we engaged in our Mechano therapy sessions, Mukunda lay contentedly, occasionally glancing our way with a playful pant. His appetite was robust, evidenced by his consumption of Aslom's cat food. Despite the freedom to explore, Mukunda's preference was to stay close to us, a sign of his unwavering loyalty.
The gravity of Mukunda's condition became apparent during a visit to our veterinarian, Frank. The tumor on Mukunda's left side had grown significantly since December, a worrying development. Frank's concern was palpable as he conducted a thorough examination, considering the possibility of ascites—a condition where fluid accumulates in the abdomen, often associated with advanced cancer.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Mukunda's absence of a heart murmur was a silver lining. Before considering surgery, Frank performed a chest X-ray and blood tests to assess Mukunda's overall health.
Restraining Mukunda for the X-ray proved challenging, as he resisted the technician's efforts. Blood draws were equally difficult, but my reassurances, filled with love, calmed him. Our bond was a source of comfort and strength for both of us.
In the waiting room, Mukunda's spirits lifted as he reunited with Baxtor, our Great White Pyrenees neighbor. Their daily meetings were a cherished ritual, and even in the face of uncertainty, Mukunda's vitality shone through.
The anticipation of test results was fraught with anxiety, yet I held onto hope, knowing Mukunda's love for life. When Frank returned with the X-ray, the results were unexpectedly positive: clear lungs, a strong heart, and well-defined liver and abdominal borders. Our dedication to Mechano treatments, homemade meals enriched with brewers yeast and stinging nettle from the Conestoga River, and regular meditation seemed to be paying off.
The blood work further bolstered our spirits, showing no signs of elevated white cells, normal liver enzymes, and healthy platelet and calcium levels. Mukunda's resilience was reflected in his above-average hemoglobin.
As we faced the prospect of surgery, I knew that my presence would be crucial for Mukunda. Frank agreed without hesitation, understanding the depth of our connection. The thought of detaching from my beloved companion was daunting, but I was determined to support him through every step.
As we prepare for the next phase of Mukunda's journey, I am reminded of the power of spiritual practice and the strength of the bond we share.
