Imagine a scenario where David Letterman roams the streets of New York City, microphone in hand, asking passersby a simple question: "What is the purpose of being in business?" The most common response would likely be "to make money." However, what if we reframe this question and propose that the purpose of business is to foster personal growth? This shift in perspective could revolutionize your business and boost your profits.

In a film about industrial technology,The Power of Integrity in Business: A Catalyst for Sales Growth Articles the protagonist shares an insightful perspective on entrepreneurship. He admires the likes of Dupont, Rockefeller, and Ford, who amassed great wealth by venturing into the unknown, the frontier. He believes that institutions don't create anything; it's individuals who are the thinkers, planners, and visionaries shaping the future.

This perspective aligns with my mission to promote integrity in business across the United States and beyond. If individuals and organizations uphold integrity, our world would be safer, more vibrant, healthier, and more fulfilling.

Research indicates that visionary companies like Citicorp, Ford, Marriott, Nordstrom, Wal-Mart, and Walt Disney all uphold a common code of integrity. They foster a culture and belief system that permeates every level of the organization, with a shared belief that the purpose of business is to grow people. This growth is achieved through coaching and a principle-based organization.

The Three Core Principles of Integrity in Business

  • I do what I say I will do.
  • I can’t do it by myself. I am far better off as part of a team than I can ever be alone.
  • Accountability - I am the source of all that I experience.

Principle #1: I do what I say I will do.

This principle is fundamental. If an individual doesn't regard this as important, the entire system of core values collapses. It's a myth that setting high goals and falling short is better than setting lower goals and falling short. Instead, replace this myth with Minimum Level Objectives (MLOs). This concept embraces the first principle of living with integrity.

Principle #2: I can’t do it by myself. I am far better off as part of a team than I can ever be alone.

Elite performers understand the importance of teamwork. By surrounding themselves with others, they create an environment conducive to learning, discovery, clarity, and accountability.

Principle #3: Accountability - I am the source of all that I experience.

This principle prevents individuals from playing the victim. It acknowledges that humans are powerful creators of their own experiences, even if those experiences are dysfunctional.

To change your point of view, first decide what you want. Then, determine what you need to do to achieve it. Finally, decide what you will do over the next seven days. This declaration should be specific, observable, and measurable.

The process isn't complete until you have an accountability structure in place. This requires another person to hold you accountable and check in with you at the end of the week.

This elite performance system has yielded tremendous results for individuals dissatisfied with their current state or achievements. For those seeking fulfillment in their health, business, and personal lives, this is the formula.

Try it out. Make a specific declaration to another person and execute it over the next seven days. Design a reward or punishment system with that person and observe how your perception shifts. By stringing together weeks like this, you can create a miraculous and magical year. Good luck!
