An architect is a man who is in charge of everything connected with putting up a new building. He decides what the new building should look like when it is finished. He decides what materials should be used in making the new building—whether it should be made of wood, or brick, or stone, or anything else. He makes the plans that must be followed by the men who do the actual work of putting the building together.

The architect must be both an artist and a scientist. Planning the appearance of a building is called design.

Design and construction are the two branches of architecture
