What is META tag?
A META tag is the page abstract text that is placed inside html header tag and it is hidden from browser display area.  

Search engine crawlers use these META tag text as the page description for displaying results. You can see Google results with title href followed by description of the page in the next line.


Guidelines for using META description tag

1. Create META description tag within 140-150 characters length; hence the maximum length of a META description to be displayed in search results should be between 150-155 characters.  If your description text length is greater than 155, google will truncate remaining characters and displays with ... extension. 6. Include the name of your organization in the META description tag of your home page.
