Not Just any Backlink Will do When it Comes to SEO

When it comes to SEO, or search engine optimization, obtaining a lot of backlinks is very important.  However, it is important for you to realize not just any backlink will do.  Your efforts will pay off much better if you focus on getting high-quality backlinks.

One of the main things determining whether or not the backlink is high-quality is the authority of the website that is linking to it.  It is much more useful to get links from high PageRank pages.  Links from .gov and .edu sites are very worthwhile too.
You should not try to get links from just any website, even if it has a lot of authority.  Backlinks from relevant sites in your niche are more useful.  For example; you would not want to get a lot of backlinks from gambling and gardening sites if your website is about horses.

It is also important for you to take into account the attributes of the backlink itself.  Links can have a nofollow or dofollow attribute.  Nofollow links do not pass much value to your website, if any at all.  Therefore, it is best for you to focus on getting dofollow links.

The placement of the link on the page is also important.  It is best that the backlink appear in the middle of the page's content.  This is known as an in context link.  These links are much more valuable than links posted in a blogroll or even on a links page.

Many websites put all of their outbound links on one page.  It can be useful to get a link on one of these pages.  However, search engines will value your backlink much less if it appears on a page with many other links.  Try to get links on pages with less than 25 other backlinks.

One of the main things you need to take into account when trying to get backlinks is the anchor text it has.  The anchor text is the text people see before clicking on the link.  It is best for it to consist of your main keywords.  However, you should also try to use variations of your main keywords for your anchor text links.

Although getting as many links as possible is important, you need to pay attention to the type of links you are getting.  Nofollow links are not very useful, so you should not waste much time getting them.  You should also try to find high authority websites that are willing to provide a link to your website.
