This week saw the end of Darren Gough's adventure in The Jump, losing out to Sir Steve Redgrave in the head to head jump off, with Sir Steve opting for the K24 jump and clocking up a greater distance off the jump.
Darren Gough was eliminated in The Jump earlier this week in losing out to Sir Steve. He has endured a tough time in Innsbruck with countless falls and crashes and a number of injuries sustained.
The event has witnessed a number of injuries to celebrities, with two having to pull out following injury through concussion and a broken wrist and by Melinda and Henry respectively. Darren Gough has to be the most injury prone celebrity on the show clocking up no less than five separate injuries across his body yet more surprisingly he is still active and here are just a couple of them.
Ankle ligament damage
Ligaments are tough bands of tissue which connect the bones within a joint and are responsible for its stabilisation. Damage to the ligaments can affect your ability to apply weight to the joint.
Mild damage can be painful and result in swelling whilst a tear to the ligament can be extremely painful. The entire weight of the body passes through the joint, therefore any instability can have a severe impact on your ability to remain mobile. Should you ankle injury fail to show signs of improvement following a few days of rest then you should obtain a professional diagnosis.
An ankle brace can be worn to offer additional support during recovery from injury with a number of different options available depending on the type and severity of the injury. An ankle brace designed to offer stability with strapping acting as an external ligament should be worn following any severe ligament damage. Compression is also a key feature to help manage any inflammation which can also allow you to remain active for longer.
Knee Pain
The knee problems experienced by Darren stem back to his cricket playing days, admitting that he now needs to wear a knee brace when active following continued injuries to the joint, something the knocks and falls during his winter sports adventure will not have helped with.
Each knee brace is completely different, depending on the condition you wish to manage or even prevent against and can be segmented by soft supports and rigid supports.
A soft knee support is designed to worn during an activity by helping to manage an injury whilst in motion. They work by offering compression to help manage inflammation and can cater for a variety of conditions from mild ligament damage to patella tendonitis.
A rigid knee support is typically worn as a preventative measure to protect against impact damage and can be seen being worn by extreme sports professionals. A rigid brace is manufactured from lightweight and strong materials such as carbon fibre to offer maximum protection against impact damage without hindering mobility.
Final Thoughts
It has been a tough week for Darren Gough in Innsbruck with the injuries sustained though with rest and physiotherapy he should be back to full fitness in no time. Sports braces are a great way of helping to manage a condition whilst also allowing a person to remain active with knee supports and ankle braces targeting the root cause of the issue to help offer the stability lost through the initial injury.
